Some Grass along a Ditch Bank” by Larry Levis (from Blackbird)
A poem about grass by a great poet.

It’s the Kingfish, Honey—Pining” by Amaud Jamaul Johnson (from Anti-)
I’m not exactly sure what’s going on or how Johnson makes this short poem happen, but it’s got great voice and a wonderful ending.

Pit Ponies” by Theodosia Henney (from Fifth Wednesday)
I like poems where I learn things that I didn’t expect to learn about. Ponies in mines. Hmm.

Tolberton County, 1923” by Rebecca Black (from Blackbird)
This is just a mighty fine poem.

I Looked for You, I Called Your Name” by Laura van den Berg (from Ploughshares, republished in
TINGE)
I’d been wanting to read a story by this author for some time, and this is the one I stumbled on. I know it’s already got a bit of attention, but I enjoyed it and so should you.
