Jennifer Tappenden is the founding editor of Architrave Press. She earned an MFA in poetry from the University of Missouri – St. Louis where she also served as the university’s first Poet Laureate. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Flyway, Euphony, Bryant Literary Review and elsewhere.

Graf Writer” was inspired by a prolific St. Louis area tagger. His signature “Rat Fag” appears all over the city, sometimes in precarious but highly visible locations. It got me thinking about signage, sanctioned or otherwise, and how the unique identity of a place is created collectively.
